Introduction to Maintenance Engineering Major

Maintenance Engineering is an interdisciplinary branch of engineering aimed at improving the reliability, safety, availability, and useful lifespan of industrial systems while optimizing the Life Cycle Cost. This field, with a comprehensive approach from the design stage to operation and maintenance, studies and develops methods and technologies that enable condition monitoring, failure prevention, and optimal maintainability.

In the automotive industry, maintenance engineering is not limited to servicing and repairing the vehicle during operation; rather, it must be considered as an approach from the very stage of product design and development. This means that the vehicle and its components should be designed in such a way that reliability, safety, availability, and useful life are guaranteed at a desirable level, the vehicle's life cycle cost is optimized, and the possibility of condition monitoring and effective maintainability is provided.

This approach is effective not only in the final product (vehicle) but also throughout the entire design and production chain. Production lines, equipment, and manufacturing and testing methods must also be appropriately designed and managed to guarantee the quality, productivity, and reliability of the final product. Therefore, concepts such as Quality Control and Quality Assurance (QC & QA) are also considered important parts of maintenance engineering.
